This building was
also erected. It is one of the few existing buildings, which sprung
up directly from under my pencil.
It
was designed as a laboratory sector for one of the military factories. It was
quite an unusual project having generous financing provided from Moscow. All
this resulted in having a “green light” for some non-standard solutions and
approvals received from “high places”. Architects who happened to work in that
country and during that time may imagine what it meant. Same authorities
started spreading rumors that this project might be nominated for State award
in Architecture.
That was in
1986... Suddenly political landscape changed almost overnight. Latvia
started to speak more often in terms of sovereignty. The award was not on the
agenda. Thanks God, at least they managed to complete construction. That was in
1990. Nowadays it is just an administrative building shared by numerous small
owners. |
